The whole progress of education is held in English – and disciplines of humanitarian cycle and disciplines of the fundamental professional training.

For a better understanding of the educational process in English we offer you the commentary of lecturer T.V. Zakharova, associate professor of SEMIT department, who conducts several courses in English-speaking groups:

“All subjects of the curriculum are taught in English. Groups are mixed – both Ukrainian and foreign students which in turn is a plus for Ukrainian students, as they have to communicate within the group in English.

I am teaching senior courses and my subjects are more specialized. Therefore, in the beginning of the lecture I give definitions of certain terms, a glossary with explanations so that during the perception of the material students were already familiar with it. Some stuff (i.e. diagrams) can be given as a handout material. In the beginning of the lecture, I make the introduction, which allows to refresh student’s memory about the previous material and to understand the relationship of the previous and the current topics.

During the lectures sometimes you have to write some words on the board or to say letter by letter. If there is a presentation during the lecture, I make sure that colored fonts, images, examples are used for improving the perception of the material.

During the lectures or practical lessons I am in constant contact with the audience, engage students in the active process through questions. Answers to the questions are kind of “litmus paper”, which leads to better understanding of how students perceive and understand the stated material.

At the end of the lecture, I always give resume – theses of the main points that were discussed.

I leave time for discussion.

I consider using the media and constant contact with the audience very important, especially for teaching in English.

In August 2015 I took a course “Academic Teaching Excellence”, developed on the basis of the course CiVELT of the British Council, in the framework of the project “English for universities” and received a certificate of successful completion of the course.

This course is focused on both new methodologies in teaching and linguistic issues in the case of using the English language as a tool”.

Thus, education in English takes place according to modern educational technologies and provides good opportunities for the formation of professionals.
